A field goal is a shot made from the floor during play. This includes both 2 and 3 point shots. It excludes free throws. If a player made two 3-pointers, four 2-pointers, and 3 free throws, he would have made 6 field goals. An attempt from the floor during play is a field goal attempt. Field goal percentage is determined as FG's made/ FG's attempted x 100%.

a field goal is basically how many shot attempts u have at the hoop...example: allen iverson shoots a mid range jumpshot, that is couted as a field goal and if u miss 5 ouit of 12 shot then you have about a 45% free throw percentage so field goals=shot attemps
