It may be bronchitis or pneumonia. How persistant is the cough, and how bad is it?
You need to see a doctor. They will take an x-ray and let you know what it is.

You may have a chronic cough. That is to say, a cough that has lasted over 3 weeks. Are you coughing up thick yellow or green phlegm?
Are you wheezing (making a whistling sound when you breathe in)?
Are you running a temperature higher than 101°F?
Are you losing weight without trying?
Are you having drenching sweats in bed at night (the sheets and your pajamas get soaking wet)?
Are you coughing up blood?
If you answer yes to any of these questions, go to a doctor IMMEDIATELY! Your coughing could be because of smoking, asthma, allergies, some medicines (Most high blood pressure drugs may cause chronic coughing) or acid reflux. I don't really have any advice for a cure, but there have been recent studies that 50 grams of dark chocolate can help cure a cough. You could also be developing bronchitis, or hopefully not, lung cancer. If it is really bothering you and it's getting disruptive in your daily life, I would go to your physician as soon as possible. Good luck!

You could have broncitis which comes with a bad cold sometimes and doesn't go away without antibiotic. You could also have atshma which just happened to come on with that cold and need medication for that. Then there is always allergies which can actually cause flu, cold like symptoms. Is your cough productive? If so. Is it clear or yellow? If it's clear you are probably suffering from asthma which is a reaction or allergy to something that you are allergic to. If it's yellow, or any other but clear or white, you have an infection. So, if it's allergy, asthma, try keeping windows down, ac, cleaned, vacuum often, wash bedding often. stay away from cats, weeds, mowing, trees and plants that are blooming. basements, rotting leaves and outside molds and all that stuff. Buy an over the counteer inhaler and try that or go to Dr. If it's cold or flu, you need an antibiotic. Get to Dr.

Read the directions on the cough medicine. It will say that if a cough persists for more than seven days (sometimes less, depending on the brand) to see a doctor.
So, go to a doctor, you likely have developed a secondary infection such as bronchitis and are heading towards pneumonia. You may have already scarred your lungs and left yourself with Chronic Asthmatic Bronchities, which fairly well means that anytime you catch a cold, you're going to get a secondary infection, even if placed on antibiotics immediately.
You could also be left with regular asthma and allergies.
Doctor. Now! If you're lucky you can return home with antibiotics and steroids, but be prepared for the possibility of checking into a hospital.
