I live here in Vegas... and while I HATE living here it's OK for a vacation. There is Circus Circus for the kids - and if you like nature, the weather for the next few months will be nice.... there is Lake Mead and Red Rock Canyon that are a nice see.
If you stay around the strip, there is a lot to do. But, this is also an area with a lot of crime, and things to keep the kids busy will end up being expensive in cost, and cheap in the way of entertainment. You are best to drive through Vegas and stay here a day or two, then head somewhere else... the Grand Canyon as well as the caverns of the Mojave Desert are close enough. :)
If you do decide to come some ideas that are family friendly -
Circus Circus has an indoor theme park, and all the casinos have arcades. The Mirage has an excellent pool area, which the kids are likely to enjoy. MGM's shark exhibit is a little pricey, but entertaining for a tourist (so long as you aren't from California or Florida or have a Sea World type place near home).
A good place for local tourist spots I like to check out is www.TripAdvisor.com. They always have excellent information.
It could be fun here... depending on the age of your kids. Remember, the casinos are kinda smoke filled (some are worse than others), the crime rate is high, and there is plenty of trash out here... I mean both garbage and people. While the town is becoming more family friendly, it is still mainly based to attract adults for drinking and gambling! But you know your family. :) Good luck and happy vacationing!

I've been to Vegas and there are things you can do with your kids but I wouldn't suggest the strip. I heard that Circus Circus is one of the better hotels for families but really Vegas isn't the best place for a family vacation.

There is so much to do in Las Vegas. There are shows for all ages. The kids might like Circus Circus and M&M's World. They might also like to see the dolphins at the Mirage Hotel and the lions at the MGM Grand. There are lots of places to shop and roller coasters.

Well, The Strip is not a place to take the kids except to sightsee all the casino buildings. Keep them out of the disgusting smoke-choked gamblings areas. There are some rides and tourist sights, activities, too.
The surrounding areas have some warm weather activities/destinations, but not really a winter outdoor spot. Just my opinion.
Take your kids to Disneyland instead.

I just got back from my very first trip to Vegas and I saw so many couples with kids. I thought, gosh why would anyone want to take their kids there. I just don't think it is a place to take them. It is so crowded with people and you are limited in the casinos as to the areas where they are allowed. Why would you want to do that to yourself. I would go someplace more family friendly and save Vegas for a getaway for two. Just my advice

It does have that history, but it's perfectly safe for kids, who are chaperoned. The kids might enjoy Barry Manillow or The Star Trek Experience. Maybe even the car museum. Take them. I suggest staying at the Hilton or The Shara.

I've been there and if you have never gone, then do your self a favor and just adults go the first time. You can check everything out and then take the kids. It's cheaper (considerably cheaper) to go mid week.
