is the cummins 8.3 litre 300hp a good engine?

Question

I have just purchased a 1996 gulfstream motorhome and the engine seems to be leaking oil. It only has 27,000 miles on it and am concerned. It is model CRL 2102

Well if you suspect it is lacking oil, have the oil pump pressure.
As to the Cummings Engine being good.
Let me say this (from Experience)
Any engine made by Cummings is a work horse. Thy are built it last, last last.
Being it is a diesel engine the rods always sound like thy are lacking oil. But as I said if you think it is lacking oil, Have the oil pump pressure checked.
