Because they're trying to be cool, hip & different. Actually it just annoys people & they don't listen anymore. DJ's should remember they are playing for an audience not for themselves. Leave the weirdo stuff at home.

Because they receive new tunes via DJ mailing list way before Dave and his sh1tty pub disco. In fact, Dave and his sh1tty pub disco will probably be playing the same stuff in a years time when it's in the chart. (In between the usual tedious 'party' crap tunes). Basically if they play the same as everyone else they might as well be a jukebox, and people who know their tunes expect to hear new, fresh and upfront sounds (along with classic ones of course) not the same stale overplayed crud that every other knob-end is playing.

Prabably because they want to be "seen" to be at the cutting edge of the particular music scene they are part of.

It's nothing new, used to happen in the 80's when Jazz-Funk was in it's infancy.
Lots of fellow DJ's used to import stuff that no-one in the UK had ever heard of. A lot of them used to fly off and play in Ibiza etc, it could be very lucrative.

Same used to happen in the reggae Dancehall scene, slates imported from the Windies, various African countries etc.

Basically, the more obscure and unheard of the better, it was considered uber cool, etc.

Well, I think they want to be 'artistic' just like a fashion designer. It makes them stand out. Occaionally, they are trying to promote their own remixes of songs, and sometimes it takes a few listens before a song start to grow on you. Then it won't sound obscure anymore.

Also, you can hear "crowd pleasers" on the radio, at a local bar or you most likely have it already.

Crowd pleasers become very shi*e and repetitive! If I want that I would stay home instead of dragging my sorry ar*e out in the rain to listen to some top stuff!

Becaue if they all played crowdpelasers they would all sound the same and then none of them would be superstars.

"if everybody looked the same, we'd get tired of looking at each other"
