My MB has a lighting problem. All fuses good and bulbs work in other sockets. Problem: right low beam and right taillight do not work. When high beams turned on both front work but still no taillight. When fog lamps on, all but one bulb in taillight works, including front right light. (high&low) Any ideas or should I just leave fog lights on ? Dealer 45 miles away and very stuffy.

That lighting switch has three posistions in and out as well as six rotary posistions are you sure tou are not turning on just the parking left or parking right rear lamp? Along with the headlights. Nortorious for ground problems at the bulb holders take a minute each side and tighten the philips screws on each bulb holder plate, All of them not to tight as to strip them just snug them up.

MB fuses are notorious for looking OK but actually being blown.

However this sounds more like a switching problem to me and it could be in the lighting relays. Most of these are in the fuse box if the 300e is anything like my '83 380SEC. Pull one relay at a time and check for poor or dirty connections. If you can identify a bad relay, it can sometimes be repaired by re-soldering connections once opened. Any electronic hobbyist or radio and TV service person can do this if you can't manage it.

The SEC's also have an over voltage protection relay which has a large fuse on top. If this fuse is blown you will get all sorts of odd troubles.

Finally pull the steering wheel (if you can) and remove the shroud around the steering column. Make sure all the connections to the multi-function switch are good. A poor connection in mine led to the turn signals not working in cold weather, but being OK once the car interior warmed up!
