Yes, you need to clip your guinea pig's nails regularly. If you let them get too long, the vein inside will alos grow long, making it more difficult to clip the nails without hurting it.
There are special nail trimming scossors that you can pick up at your local pet shop. There should actually be 2 people doing the trimming, one to hold the critter, and the other to do the actual clipping. If you are unable to get someone to help you, you can lay the guinea pig on it's back and on your lap to do this.
With the nail trimming scissors, clip the ends of the nail, but make sure that there aren't rough edges on the bottoms of the nail. be careful not to clip the nail too short, as this will not only hurt the critter, but the nail will bleed.
If you do, by chance, make the nail bleed, you can stop the bleeding by packing it with a little bit of flour or quick stop ( again, the quick stop can be found at yor local pet shop).
I hope this helps you.
Good luck

Yes, you need to clip a guinea pig's nails. Not clipping they're nails can cause pain from foot and ankle problems to deformities. A very good if not great tool for doing this is a babies finger nail clipper. Make sure you don't go too short or close to the cuticle. look at the color of the whole nail and you will see two colors. Cut just inside of the color that goes to the end of the nail farthest from the cuticle. A couple licks with a emery board or nail file to smooth out the edges and walla!! one happy Guinea Pig. I hope this will help you. :)

yes you can use human nail clippers if you want or they sell nail clippers for cats and small dogs. If you clip the nails yourself be sure to take off a little at a time. All animals with nails have a quick that is a blood vessel. If you cut this it will bleed and sometimes too much. If this happens you can rub flour, or rub a bar of soap onto the bleeding nail. This will stop the bleeding.

Yes, their are like ours and will grow, let alone they will curl around you piggies foot, and piggy will no longer be able to walk right, all you need to do is trim the tip off about every 3 weeks if you look at them they are just like ours. You can use baby fingernail clipper they work fine, all you have to do is trim off the tip, be careful to take off just the tip. If you hit the quick, it will bleed. The quick is the pink part. I have left you a link; this link will explain it in detail.

confident, all piggies choose a pedicure as quickly as a month! The nails can advance so long that they curl around and imbed into the foot. Ouch! It additionally makes walking complicated. Trimming nails is straight forward in the experience that your piggie has gentle colored nails. plenty greater durable in the event that they're black. in case you carry the nail up, you have the means to work out the "speedy" (pink area that contains the blood vessel). Trim between the top of the nail & the pink speedy. in case you by twist of fate trim too far, the nail will bleed & your piggie will squeak. Have some flour or baking soda attainable basically in case & this is going to give up the bleeding in case you dip the toe in it. in the experience that your piggie has black nails, you're able to be very careful & wager the place the fast is located. I trim tiny bits at a time. i take advantage of common human toenail clippers. continually have a cope with for afterwards! good success! P.S. Please forget relating to the advice of the placed up that suggested piggies' choose their the teeth trimmed in many situations. it is fake. they only choose their the teeth trimmed in the event that they get overgrown or advance spurs on their molars. in case you supply good hay & chewing gadgets, this could very much decrease the choose for trimming, which could basically be performed by using a vet! Mineral wheels are additionally no longer good for guinea pigs.

The above responders have answered your question, but I have a tip to add - if you have a piggie with dark-colored nails like mine and you can't see or tell where the quick is, shine some sort of light from underneath the nail when you cut it and it should show up.
