Restroom signs need to be installed beside the door, not on the door of the restroom itself (although you can add a supplemental sign on the door, if you want). This sign should be found on the side where the doorknob is, and should be mounted around 60 inches from the floor. This allows for the easy reading of people in wheelchairs as well as people who are standing. The placement also allows for the easy reading of those who need to touch the sign to read the Braille translations on it. Also, the location of this sign (beside the door and not on it) helps prevent the possibility of people being hit by an opening and closing door, or by people going in and out of the restroom.
