Absolutely not, its just warm and wet! Depending upon how big the baby is and how it is positioned will determine how much water actually escapes. I've had 4 babies, with 2 the waters were broken by the midwife and the other 2 were differing amounts as 1 was somewhat bigger than the other!

In my experience with childbirth, absolutley not!!!!! I was just sitting around at my mothers house the day I went into labor and felt something warm in my underwear, so I immediatley went to check it out and my underwear was soaked. But.....my water was not completely broken either, when I went to the ER to be admitted they tried to say that it wasn't even my water, but then they did another test to be positive and it was, so they had to break the rest for me. So, my answer is NO!

no,it doesn't hurt.it's like a big gash of liquid running out of you.
like with me i was a sleep.and i was woken-up by my water
breaking, not by no pain or anything like that.it was from the
warm like sticky nasty feeling.then 20 minutes after all that
is when i started to get pain, lower back, and front, thats when
i knew the labor was really starting.because even though my water had broke i wasn't still sure,if i was going into labor, for
i had no warning pains.even though i called it in,they told me to
wait because i was having no pain.and when it started-up,they
still said give it some time.carring the baby and your water breaking on it's on is the good part of having to be pain free.
it's when the labor pains start that stinks.but the aftermath of it
all is the best when you hear, see, feel, and hold your baby.
you then come to thinking it was all worth it..

No it doesn't hurt at all.
You get a funny feeling, thought I was about to pee and it was my waters breaking. With my second child, I had my waters broken for me, while in labour.

it dosent hurt at all when your waters break . it is just like doing a wee only your not in control and it feels warm, and then you know labour will follow very shortly. i was woken out of a very nice sleep when mine broke.
