What you have to understand with these guys is they have very little exposure to reality. They're surrounded by a 24 hr security detail for the perfectly good reason that people want to shoot them, and isolated from any meaningful debate and exchange of ideas. The information he does get comes from aides and advisors with agendas, most of whom are eager to agree and kiss ***. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Bush, but part of his disconnect from reality is in fact not his fault. We should be asking a bigger question - namely is an executive democracy appropriate at all in a country with such a polarized electorate, and if it is, should we not at least require that the executive be exposed to serious and regular debate (sham town hall meetings do not count).

No. After 9/11 Bush recognized the threat posed to us by Islamic Fascists, and the states that support them. Ever since then, he has been trying constantly to get everyone to recognize the danger and help him.
Unfortunately, the Democrats want to win elections, and they can't do that if the President looks good. So they have been running around screaming at the top of their lungs that, to use your analogy, the emperor is naked. Anybody with eyes can clearly see that he isn't naked. But there are more voices, and louder voices, screaming that he is, so people believe it.
It's truly sad that with all the danger we face in the world, people will ignore truth and reality just to win elections. Now is the time, we should all come together as Americans to protect our country.
The emperor is NOT naked. Stop listening to people that say he is. Open your eyes and look for yourself.

You got it, but I don't think he wants to know the truth. Brian Williams interviewed him 2 weeks after both Time and Newsweek had cover stories saying Bush was in a bubble, surrounded by 'yes' men and unaware of criticism or of views other than neo con ideology. Williams held up the magazines, and Bush was totally surprised. He'd neither seen nor heard of these stories and seemed to think Williams was showing him mock covers.

Except that the naked emperor at least had the decency not to annihilate democracy in the name of democracy.

I see the analogy but in reality Bush would look funny running around naked because he has no balls. He sends others to do his dirty work

Yes, in fact I have commented that my husband sounds like the child in that story when talking about the current President. I have felt as though I were the child many, many times. It's surreal.

Seems to me a lot of people are trying to tell him he is foolish--
Now if you had asked if Bill Clinton was the naked emperor, I would have an entirely different answer.
