George W. Bush is sitting at a 38% job approval rating. He may be the most controversial U.S. president since Richard Nixon, and certainly the country is more divided than at any time since the Vietnam War. With the ongoing war in Iraq, new revelations from books such as Bob Woodward's "State of Denial", and the prospect for a change of control of Congress to the Democrats, many believe he is an historically poor president. Some even call for his impeachment. What do you think? Is the Bush presidency a failure? Will it go down in history as historically bad? Or will history look more kindly on the Bush administration just as Harry Truman today is more highly regarded than when he was in office? Why would Bush's image be rehabilitated in the future? Finally, who do you want to see as the President to succeed him?

Bush will go down as a polarizing figure that played to the extreme right wing and made our country hated all around the world. he will definately not be remembered as a "great" president by anyone with a brain. truman was a great president because he had really tough decisions and did the best he could... bush has had it fairly easy and has created his own problems (iraq anyone?)... i would be quite happy if the next president was John Edwards... my perfect candidate would be Al Franken.

"History is not what happened. History is what was written down. All words commited to paper are written by human beings. Human beings are ruled by their emotions, political and religious affiliations and opinions." Great quote...totally the truth and very thought provoking.
GWB is the worst president we have ever had. I have no idea who will be next, I hope that we have two very good people to choose from. I would like to see Fmr. General Colin Powell run for office. Or maybe Hilary Clinton, John Edwards or John Kerry again. I sincerly believe we couldn't get any worse unless GWB's brother decides to run (PLEASE NO!!)
I hope that the country has learned a valuable lesson about the need to vote. And I hope that they all get out to the poles and VOTE. The only way we are going to change anything that has happened in the last long Bush-ed years is to VOTE. I honestly don't think that anyone will look upon the Bush-ed years with anykind of fondness. The middle class has really taken the hit with the increasing costs of gas as well as all other utilities. Our paychecks have gotten smaller with tax increases and the basic costs of living have gone up incrediable $. I would love to see GWB come and live my life with my income and my bills with my three daughters for a couple of months. He couldn't do it. I wonder if he ever had to live on a budget...or even pay a bill.

Bush as is evidenced by his corrupt administration will most surely go down in the history books as the worst president of our country. He will be remembered not as a gun toting cowboy but as a hick that does not understand history, economics, or the military, he is always saying that he is a christian most likely to get votes from the religious right, as we all know a christian is known not by their words but their works. He will go into the history books as the president that got us into an unwinnable war for all the wrong reasons, the president that broke the economy and left such a mess that it took three decades to straighten it out. So yes it will go down in infamy.

Yes history will look back on Bush after the ink has dried on the laughable scripts at Fox "News"

Z News of the 22nd September puts it nicely. I think that captures the heart of his failures:-

"Under President Bush, the United States has seriously undermined the ability of the international community to work together to empower voices of moderation and marginalize extremists. For example, the Bush administration has gone to great efforts to undermine the International Criminal Court, which could play a critical role in bringing to justice extremists responsible for crimes against humanity. Similarly, with bipartisan support in Congress, the Bush administration attacked the International Court of Justice for its landmark 2004 ruling on the obligations of signatories to enforce the Fourth Geneva Convention. The United States, the world's number one arms supplier, has also blocked UN efforts to curb the trade in small arms used by terrorists. Currently, the United States sends more arms and security assistance than any other country to autocratic regimes and other violators of universally recognized human rights in the Middle East and elsewhere."

Apart from invading Iraq and threatening Iran, that is!
I think Bush has taken the greatest country on Earth and flushed it down the toilet.

Approval polls are meaningless.

The Bush presidency will go down in history as having been handed severe challenges of both economic difficulty plus Islamic terrorism and 9/11. Very similar problems to FDR's presidency, but to a less severe extent.

It will be recognized as having dealt with the economy reasonably well, and setting a policy of actively fighting terrorism instead of appeasing it.

History will regard him as a strong willed President tasked with dealing with a difficult war, who made mistakes, but lead the fight against Islamic fascism.

Of course, if we get the spinless Dems in charge for a while, future American history might view him as the evil infidel that failed in opposing the prophet Osama bin Laden.

right this moment's AP checklist places his administration's deregulation regulations back in to the crosshairs. I knew there's a clarification why he or his little blonde press secretary did no longer pass public condemning the Democrats movements in pushing those undesirable loans. right this moment is data of that. whether, to assert that Bush & Co. are the only reason in the back of the meltdown could be fake. there are a great form of issues that would desire to pass incorrect for the financial gadget to hit a downturn like this that it can not be so truly defined. confident, they do bear responsbility as they're in value, and confident some Democrats are in charge for the full own loan fiasco. additionally, we the everybody is in charge for paying for what we will not locate the money for. the value of the conflict is in charge, our failure to look for brand spanking new technologies are in charge. 9/11's effect is in charge. there are various motives, yet i can't help yet think of that a diverse administration could have been extra enthusiastic about the signs and indications that have been obtrusive over the previous few years. It in basic terms looked like Bush in basic terms would not care, as long as he have been given his.

W's poll numbers illustrate his overall presidency. He will be considered one of the worst Presidents of all time. He lied about WMD and brought america into iraq which is utterly a nightmare, costing billions. he has the highest budget deficit in the history of the US. the national debt is approaching 9 trillion. the economy is slow. the poverty rate has increased. he increased inequality between the rich and poor. polarized america. wages and average income are stagnant. HURRICANE KATRINA was a NIGHTMARE and he greatly failed. the negatives greatly outweigh the postives for president bush.

The one issue that concerns me more than anything else is the question of how the U.S. Constitution is interpretted by the U.S. Supreme Court. And in this regard, Bush was a failure in my eyes shortly after I voted for him.

I don't care any more about who wins elections, who holds the White House or Congress or the Governor's Mansion or the state legislature. I don't care any more about whether the budget is out of balance, or whether we are in an unjust war, or whether the environment is being adequately protected, or any of those kinds of things. I care about how the Constitution is being interpretted and about that I am extremely pessimistic.

his first election will go down in history as one of the strangest, and the second will probably remembered as a time when the country lost its mind...his 8 years in power will likely be remembered as the golden age for fat-cats, and the point at which the US lost any semblance of moral high ground and international respect...a potted plant would be a fitting successor-after all, he's proved you don't have to have a brain to be the president

yes. "infamy, infamy, they've all got it infamy"

he's a failure. i'm not a US citizen so i still don't know how people can say he's tough on terrorism when it was on his watch that 9/11 occurred.

impeachment? i dunno. all politicains lie. W is just not intelligent enough to be very good at it.

history will judge it a lot worse than the comparatively high 38% popularity rating. history always does.

to succeed him...? i think almost anyone (except cheney) would do a better job, but i don't get to vote anyway.
