If you want to get into current leakage and millivolt measurements, there might be some energy consumption, but it would be negligible. Without a complete circuit, there is no flow of electricity. It doesn't matter if the switch is wired hot or if the light fixture is wired hot.

As long as the switch is turned on, the light, and any appliance that is plugged in, will use a small amount of electricity. Make sure power is off before replacing the bulb, just in case. Power is provided to the socket and not the bulb then; it will be a "hot socket" with the switch on.

TVs use the most electricity when they are turned off but plugged in; especially those that have the instant start feature. Just added this as a sidelight to your question.

If the light is burned out, there will be no electrical use there. That does not mean, however, that there is no electricity in the light bulb or in the fixture. That is still live.

No. Because there is no continuity of the electric current due to the busted light bulb.

No, the light bulb has a filament which completes the circuit. If the filament is broken, which has caused your bulb to be "burnt out" then no electricity can pass through it, to light it. So, the circuit is broken and no electricty is flowing.

I hope this helps.....

yes because there is still active electricity going to the bulb, even tho it's burnt out. to cut off the electricity the switch must be off

The current is still hot to the bulb.

Is your light bulb on? I see there are more like you too; Graphix, httnmrtt, nightwrite all failed science class.

NO it does not unless you stick your finger in the socket then it will. But if you did I don't think you would really care anymore about this question. right
