Someone I know has suddenly changed. They went from being a fairly clean person to urinating in the bed and really not caring how they looked. Today I caught them staring into the air as if they were looking at someone and then they started talking to themselves. But not saying with words comming out but with their lips. Now I'm worried that they may be going crazy because schizophrenia runs in their family. The thing is that when you talk to them they can hold a very normal conversation. But sometimes I see them and they just start smiling or laughing for no apparent reason and when I ask them whats the matter they say nothing they was just thinking about something that was funny. But that happens alot...everyday to be more precise. The person is really quiet and shy. They dont have any friends and they stay in the house in their room most of the time. Once I caught them sitting in their room in pitch black eating. I thought it was weird. I want to talk to them but I dont know what to

say to them and I don't want to hurt their feelings and I definetly don't want to jump to conclusions. I keep speaking to their parents and they are in denial about the situation. I dont know what to do.

You are kind. It is impossible to get a "diagnosis" unless they visit their Dr & explain they're having problems. If they don't see a problem with how they're living they have human rights to live how they like.
Can you share your discoveries with person's other friends & family so you can pass it on and not feel solely responsible.
Maybe you could ask some open questions, ask if there's anything they'd like to change, how are things? etc
Good luck

Consult a doctor or another adult that will take you seriously. All the behavior you described is not normal. You have every right to be concerned. They could definitely be going through some form of mental illness. This person is isolated and will continue to exhibit stranger signs of behavior without the correct treatment. You may not be liked by the parents and/or the person you're writing about by telling others, but you may be saving this person from years of hell that could have been prevented. You are doing something very brave and loving. You should be proud of your actions and for wanting to see your friend healthy. Good luck to you and your friend.

This person sounds like they have severe depression. I know you say they smile or laugh for no apparent reason, but people with depression do that, too. This person needs to see a psychiatrist ASAP before they die from lack of personal care and cleansing and malnutrition.
