Fragile x syndrome is an inherited syndrome which cause intellectual disabilities. It is caused by repeated triplets (CGG) in a FMR1 gene. This triplet is present in all people in low numbers, but it people with fragile x it is repeated more than 200 times. This causes the FMR1 gene to be silenced, which prevents the translation of a gene into a protein, which results in the syndrome.
