Speaking up gives them what they want - attention and validation. If you want something to get done about it, don't target the bashers, target Yahoo Answers. Contact your local chapter of GLAAD, your local newspaper (especially local independent ones and those aimed at the gay community) and possibly even your local news. Show them what's happening here and let them know that YA appears to condone it and see if they think there's a story here. Since many of the bashers are also racists, try contacting your local chapter of the NAACP or other civil rights organizations and see if they will get involved, particularly if they have legal expertise. If you're a high school or college student, write an article or op-ed piece for your student newspaper and contact Y!A management to get some quotes about what's going on. Write email to Y!A demanding to know why they're allowing this harassment to continue, and get others involved. Turn the spotlight on them. Not only will that make the cockroaches scurry off into their dark, dank corners, it'll put Yahoo management in a position where they feel they have no choice but to take some kind of action.
But don't feed the trolls, it just encourages them. Ignore them. If you get rid of one, another will pop up in its place. The trick is to change the system so that the system squashes them flat and gets rid of them for you.

I'm far from passive, what are you talking about? Every time I hear bashing at my school I tell the people to shut up and that the word gay is not an insult. It really gets on my nerves when people say that! I've even told a guy I was interested in that, and he's kind of homophobic. That's why I'm not interested in him anymore.

Since this is cyberworld I am unable to cave in their faces. There are two alternatives--report them--or respond to their garbage.
I learned in second grade not to be a tattletale when my friend Melanie caved in my face.
I don't think responding to their hysterical stuff does any good. It just feeds the flame. They are looking for responses. In fact, they seem to get more responses than the serious quesitons around here. I just ingnore them.
I will say that I think Yahoo should monitor this forum 24/7 for this crap. There is so much of it that it is effecting the integrity of the forum.

As I've said before in a previous post to a similar question posed by you, sometimes saying nothing is the best approach. The more you speak up the more you do exactly what they want you to do. And the more you do what they want you to do the more they will keep doing it. Thumbs down their question, report them, and move on. And lets just hope that eventually Yahoo wakes up!

hi, i think we are starting to voice up and tell the world about our situation. time has gone to long with people who have a fondness for the same sex to be critisised and belittled for our ways. the more all of us speak of our ways and have those who offend us in bad ways, prosecuted, so will the world be in a far better way. it is only a minority who dislike the ways we enjoy, but maybe they are also jealous because they cannot get what we have .. haha .. love charise

I daren't speak up as i'd feel humilated if people knew, i am embarrassed to be gay and i'd get abuse if i did speak out... (I hear men (and women) making jokes about gays all the time, as though they are freaks of nature.

The reason why they keep it up is because they DO get people riled up and upset.
I write controversial or loaded question to get you pink panties in an uproar.
