Yes, they are square shanked and hardened.
There are also nails that are driven with a powder actuated tool. This same tool is also used to drive nails into steel.

Yes they are called cement nails and come in different lengths.
The trick to using them is to hit them very hard with a heavy hammer and hit them squarely ( straight on ). with as few blows as you can. There are also power units you can rent that will drive special nails into cement. Or if you don't have to many to do you can drill out a hole and put in an anchor and screw. Any hardware store will have the stuff you need.

There are two or three kinds of nails that are useful with concrete. The first is called a "cut nail." It is a shank of steel that is most often used to attach furring strips to concrete block. Then there are the long nails with pronged heads which will stick above to provide a place to tie off marking cords. The other is a long shaft that is propelled into concrete with .22 caliber charge from a special gun. This is particularly effective for attaching shelving, etc., to exterior walls in garages, etc. Hope you find what you need.

Yes but, depending on what you want to secure you may want to use a molly bolt instead. If what you're securing is stood on or moved a lot like a gate, the cement nails will work their way out.

Tapcons are the best way to connect to concrete. You will find tehm in hardware stores and in home improvement stores. It is a two part process, you have to drill a hole with a hammer drill and then screw the screw in with a battery operated screwdriver (drill). Tapcon screws usually come with a special bit, but I have found that works well on cement block but it will burn up on a cured concrete floor or wall. I recommend that you rent a rotary hammer drill that takes SDS bits, get the proper bit and go to work with it. There are two sets of threads on Tapcons, a smaller set to get the screw moving, and a larger set to hold it tight. You can use regular screws if you drill an oversized hole, place a lead anchor in the hole and then screw your screw in.

Tapcons come in colors, the ones that I use the most are blue. I find that the Tapcon bit is totally worthless in cheap hammer drills or in regular drills, you will burn the bit up as well as your drill.
