it used to be that on the coasts, SAT was preferred, and ACT was for the midwest. but it's not as true anymore.

i took both the SAT and the ACT, and sent both of my scores to the schools i was applying to. they will see both and take the best score into consideration.

Back in 2001-2002, when I applied to a couple of universities. UVA@Wise and ETSU they accepted either one. I took my SAT's once, didn't make a high score at all and still got accepted. I chose UVA@Wise, bad choice and then the next year in 2003 I transferred my classes to a local community college. I like a lot better:)

Anyway, I know that was a little off topic, but just my two cents. I would definitely check with U of M.

Well, if it is required to take the SAT to get in there, take it. But if it is required to take the ACT there, take that instead. This probably won't be the case.

But it doesn't really matter if they say they prefer one more than the other. The college might just want more data to study on the tests. But it doesn't effect if you get in or not.

So take the one you would do best on, or both.

I've always thought colleges wanted SAT scores. That's what I took and that's what they asked for. Why don't you ask Miami?

take both! usually east coast schools prefer SAT and west coast schools prefer ACT. having both should keep your options open completely.

They will take both. So take both and submit whichever score you do best on.
