I'm designing some software that will assist educators in tracking students, grades, and assignments. It will be able to produce reports that can either be printed or posted on a website.

What I want to know is, what other features would you like to see in this software? If you currently use software like this, what would you like to see improved?

We have IG Pro and while it's good, the issue of the interface needs major work. Features are great but many less tech savvy teachers have trouble with it. I worked with computer for a long time and because I don't see the network side of thigns, it confuses me too.

So if you are planning on putting in some worthwhile effort, bring some of the better interface features, like pop up bubbles, built-in tutorials and a comprehensive help index to the software.

On the technical side, I would say that the biggest obstacle is availability to parents. If the program can set up periodic e-mails to parents that would put more information in their hands and benefit the kids. We would need complete control since we don't want them seeing partial results, but this feature could make a big difference.

I have used Sassy and now use Gradequick.

The biggest issue that I have with gradequick is that you cannot transfer the grades to our reporting system. So after entering them all I have to print them out and then type them into the reporting system for progress reports and report cards. You should be able to just import them.

Second thing is weighting. I would like to take the category of homework and say "All homework = 10% of total grade." And then tests would be 50%, quizzes 30%, etc. We cannot do that. We have to figure it manually. So if I gave 5 tests then I would go in and say that each test is 10% so that would equal 50%. Well, while I plan for a certain # of tests, I do not know exactly for sure how many I will fit in. We have had 2 days off school already for bomb threats and electrical problems. Besides, when I do progress reports it would not be an accurate grade. I would have to go in and say 33% for each while we have just 3 tests, then change it when we take the 4th and so on. That is just stupid! I hope that you can understand what I am trying to explain. And if you come up with something better email me! I would love to get a better program.

I currently use EASY GRADE PRO - it is a great program, but takes a bit to get used to it. I have worked with it for just over a month now.

I like the fact that you can do the same function several different ways. There are several teachers in my building that will get the same results on a print out by computing it differently.

If I got to make an addition to this program, it would have to be that work submitted late or corrections could be written differently to show these corrections or late work. It saves time than reading it simply as a footnote to the program!
