All right young lady, you didn't provide to much information so we will try something. Is there someone in your house who you can turn to for a little help? do you have any tools, basic tools like a hammer, hand saw, nails, measuring tape, try square, or framing square? lets assume you do, How about making bird houses, or if you have a scroll saw and a little supervision you might try some scroll work it's a little safer than most other saws. (1) thing that is very important SAFTY now I am 76 years old and I have all my fingers also I have been a Carpenter most of my adult life. Always look for the unexpected to happen. and always remember every Carpenter tool will cut fingers off within split seconds. Treat all tools with respect, keep them clean and sharp. My wife and I have been doing wood turning the past few years, it is a very fun part of woodworking. You might try contacting the wood shop in school to find out who in the neborhood of where you live who might be willing to help you. I assume you are taking wood working at school. Back to the wood lathe, Jet tools make a good Mini lathe and 3-4 lathe tools would be enough to start with, there are several very good women who do wood turning. I could go on and on but this has to end.
Good Luck and PLEASE Work SAFTELY

well, good for you. 11 might be a bit young for wood turning, but the bird house idea is a good one. look online for some simple plans. different areas means different birds, which means different kinds of birdhouses. also cool to have around are batboxes. bats might sound scary, but they are really pretty cool.read up on bats. they can eat like 5 or 6 times their own body weight in mosquitos in a night.
be sure to get some help with using tools, and remember to wear eye protection.
have fun& stay cool!
