What I mean is whether (par exemple) a White Person uses a Black Avatar for Yahoo! Is that right? I think it's misleading, especially when that person tells everybody that he is...whatever is his race.

The "Best Answer" will be chose arbitrarily because I would love 3 extra points. (Don't take it personally.)

The entire premises of an avatar is the ability for one to create a character to represent themself. They can represent themself to be anything they want as it is simply fantasy based self expression.

Avatars are cartoon characters that are an image we choose to represent us. Mine resembles me in coloring but is definitely a lot younger than me. That's a form of misrepresentation I guess, but it's one I can live with. Some people may identify in some way with another race, who knows? I don't know if skin color alone makes avatars black or white or Asian or whatever. I would not choose to represent myself with an avatar that was that much different than myself, but that may be because I am comfortable with who I am. If I could age my avatar by 30 years, I'd do that, too.

I'm not trolling for a Best Answer, but I did want to point out that I chose your question to be the one that pushes me over 25,000 points. After 6 months on Yahoo Answers, I'm about to hit level 7. (Maybe now it's time to find a new hobby!)

i don't usually associate the avatar with the questions/answers being posted. it can be misleading, but again this Internet so, i'd say pay attention to the content of the site as opposed to the given visual aspects (BTW, i'm really an African American woman)

What does it matter? Who can tell if anyone is even close to who they say they are if you haven't met them in person? The question is moot because you have to consider the trustworthy factor about anything anyone says on the internet. The web breeds lies. Wake up. You can't build morals on the foundation of lies.

I can't use any avatar except the plain one cause I would scare everybody, I'm the Boogerman!

I don't think it matters. I mean, you shouldn't take anything for face value on the internet anyway. I guess I'm guily, I don't really have a goatee, lol

i really don't think it matters too much. whatever that person wants to protray themselves as is fine, because most likely we won't meet that person in real life, so "misleading" people isn't really an issue.

Several people use avatars that aren't even human. So I really don't see what difference it would make.

Not everyone makes one to look like them, so I think it's fine.

It's okay. Isn't it meant to represent your feelings?

Don't worry.
