when people say something that will offend others, why do they whisper? If you can't say it out loud then why say it?

Maybe they can't resist saying the bad thing, but don't want to offend. Or, they want the person to wonder what bad thing is being said about them

It's a form of intimacy. Whether it's whispering to your lover or telling a secret to a friend, it's a sign that this person is special & you want them to hear something that the rest of the world doesn't get to hear. Sometimes it may be gossip or something offensive about someone else in the room (this is rude and insensitive though if the person you're talking about can tell) but it is still something that you choose to tell that one person privately, even if in a crowded room. Not everything should be heard out loud. Some things are better kept quiet.

I like when we're out among friends & my boyfriend leans to my ear & whispers "I can't wait to get you home..." It sends chills down my back. I love whispering. It's sexy.

the comment isn't always about another person. If I whisper to someone a secret about me or my life that I don't want other people to know about, I'll whisper it not because its offensive to others, but because it's my business.

There wouldn't be any fun in that!!! It is the deceitful, evil whispering that turns the person on, who is telling the secret. They love the whole scenario, it gives them a thrill for someone to wonder what they are saying!!!

Some people want to be discreet -- even when they are offensive. They are somewhat oxymoronic.

Some people are just inconsiderate.

The former behave as you have described to show the contrast between the two, and the later just do not give a care.

A variation would get the better attention of an otherwise inattentive person !

They probably don't want to get in a confrontation but still feel the need to express their opinion for whatever reason.

I agree with you though.

You know that makes sense to me, but remember, sometimes people don't know when they are offending someone...it's called ignorance
