lately i've seen so many galleries selling, what appear to be original paintings, but it turns out that they are just really good copies onto canvas. Sometimes the artist has done some handwork over the print, but do you still think these should sell for $1,000s+?

yeah, if you are referring to Kincaid, it is crap. Kincaid is considered to be Kitche and garbage by the art community. actually, they don't even acknowledge his paintings as art. (my art prof. apologized for even mentioning Kincaid's name as he used it in his definition for Kitche)

if you are speaking of other artists in general, it depends upon who the artist is! they have to touch the print in some way or another... it is that touch that you are paying for. otherwise, yes, it is somewhat of a scam.

Sometimes the "artist" has done handwork over the print and sometimes the "artist" hires others to put highlights on the canvas. Are you referring to Thomas Kinkade? Many people do not consider him an artist but instead a very good business man. Artists challenge themselves to go beyond what they've done before; in my view, Kinkade just keeps doing what he's always done, over and over again, using the same motif. Save your money.

No, I don't like it either. In some cases the original artist may have spent several hours on the work, and someone comes along and puts a few dabs here and few dabs there and voila! It's piracy and it should be banned.

It's a scam. They are worthless if you try to resell them. Thomas Kincade is the biggest scammer of them all. Never buy his stuff.
