Is childbirth painful in that way, or just extremely tiring and uncomfortable? Does it feel like being stabbed or amputated?

I think that it is a different type of pain. It isn't a sudden unexpected sharp pain, it is more like when you get cramps when you are on your period and/or have to go #2 really badly, but multiplied by 20!

I've given birth twice and the best way I can think of to describe it is, imagine pushing a watermelon through your nostril. Yea it's a wee bit more painful than slamming your finger in a door. And no it's not something I would describe as feeling like your being stabbed or a limb being amputated.

Never been stabbed or had an amputation :) And yes i would say it's a little bit more painful than getting your finger slammed in a door.

Not to scare you but I have had 2 of my fingers slammed in a car door that was NOTHING compared to childbirth with no meds. I tried the natural the first time. That was also the last time, now epidural man is my best friend at labor time.

It is both painful and extremely tiring, I never been stabbed or amputated so I don't know. But the one pregnancy without inducing drugs was easier then others. It was mainly uncomfortable and tiring.

Yep...it's much more painful! AND its tiring and uncomfortable. Yes, it feels like being stabbed and amputated, but mostly it feels like the world's worst menstral cramps in the universe (while your in the early stages of labor that it), and later it feels like you are being ripped in half. I would HIGHLY recommend and epidural!!!

p.s. painful as it is, it's worth it! Children are a beautiful addition to your life...their are worth any and all pain that they cause!

The pain varies for everyone. For some it is extremely painful for some it's not to bad. It also varies for every pregnancy. My first one I had hardly any pain at all but ended up having a c-section. My second one was horribly painful and I kept begging for meds to reduce the pain. My third one was about average plus I knew to ask for the pain medication before it got to bad. My fourth one I got the pain meds and the nurse woke me up when it was time to push. Please e-mail me if you need to talk to someone it sounds like your having a hard time dealing with something, either that or your doing homework for health class. Either way e-mail me I'll be happy to answer your questions.

Yes. I cut my finger OFF, and giving birth (the transition part) was more painful than even that. It's an oh-my-god-I'm-going-to-die type of pain.

It's totally a different pain. It's stretching vs. pressure. Hey and a lot of people don't know this but avoid caffeine because it could cause physical and brain defects.
