You're absolutely right. There's the Bambino and then there's everyone else. Two things really set him apart from the pack; his excellence as a pitcher and his career BA- .349 for one season is amazing; for a career it's almost beyond comprehension-especially for a slugger
As far as that nasty remark about Ruth being a big fat slob the man had 136 triples and big fat guys don't get triples-they pull up at second out of breath.[ in comparison Aaron had 98 and Mays had 140]

I would really like to say that he is, but I have to say probably not. The "best player ever" is such a debateable question and will probably never get answered. It's really just a matter of opinion. Yankees fans will say Ruth, Tigers fans will say Cobb, Pirates fans will say Honus Wagner. I say we should really just toss that question aside and focus on more important things. If there is ever one player who can do it all, and breaks all the records, maybe then, and only THEN should we take that question into consideration.
