People keep calling the NYT a liberal rag. Guess what, I consider the NYT to be very conservative. Regardless of that, it is widely considered to be one of the most reputable news organizations in the world. They do get some things right.

And please read the article before chalking this up to opinion. It doesn't take an economics professor to tell you what happens when you pay more money, than you get income.

my answer is yes, too. the debt is ridiculous and reducing tax at a time like this has been a case of friends doing favours for short term gains and f+ck the country. What happened to the idea that it was a govt for the people?

the US will not continue to dominate the world, especially with such an aggressive foreign policy. all it takes is for China and Venezuela to agree to set prices and pay for oil in euros and the US economy is likelyy to collapse. the dollar will not stay the main currency of the world forever. you are heading for an enormous crash.

The (liberal) NY Times has never had anything positive to say about President Bush and any editorial opinion they may post about the future standard of living is just that, an editorial opinion.

Additional details:
For crying out loud, it's in the OPINION SECTION !!!
If you don't believe the "times" isn't liberal, you must consider the National Enquirer chock full of journalistic integrity. Take a moment to read about what candidates and issues they endorse and get back to us.
Personally, I wouldn't use the NY Times to line a birdcage but that's just my opinion.

I believe the standard of living you have is up to you.
Yes, he is our Nations leader, for now, but how successful you are depends on you, your motivators, and what you can and will do to be a success in life.
Its the same thing as blaming a bad childhood for your life today. Though that has merit, we all have had that kind of life, just different ends of the spectrum.
Do not read into the media, its hype. My husband has been in the Military for many many years, and Bush is the only President since he has been in, to give raises to the Men and Women of the Armed Forces.
I believe its up to you, not Bush, to decide how your standard of life will be.
I know what kind of life we want, and we work hard for it. I have lived through Bush 1 and 2, Reagan AND Clinton....
I am not farther ahead, nor behind, because of any President.
I am AHEAD because I knew what I wanted, and did not stop till I got it.

I think it's also partly the fault of the American people. The age of the Internet Bubble got people used to high wages and lavish lifestyles. Now wages are flattening out, yet the price of everything is rising. So many people are using credit cards and home equity loans to live beyond their means. If people don't start making smarter choices about how they spend (or don't spend) their money, they'll be just as much to blame.

Bush Policies? Tax Cuts, Record low unemployment, Dow at record highs. Which policies are you talking about? If you let some piece of rag such as the NY times to bring you down you have no chance in this life to any happiness.

No. While I'm not a big fan of the national debt, it is not the boogeyman it is made out to be. Check out the blog below for a very well reasoned look at why the deficit and debt are not a problem, so long as the GDP keeps growing.

We the middle income and lower are proof positive that the answer is yes.

When the separation between poor and rich increase who standard of living decreases?
Not the BLOODY FILTHY RICH MATE!

Bush has made America the laughing stock of the world.
He single handed instituted the CASTE system with his GOP regime.

GOP is full of GODS.
ASK THEM!

Yes. Even assuming the Dems retake D.C. and tax the crap out of the rich, it'll take generations for us to get out from under the debt G.W. accrued, and every tax payer is paying for it. The poorest will probably be hit hardest though.
