You need to wait so your body can heal. You want everything to work right before you have sex again. Some doctors will say it is OK before the six weeks is up. It doesn't hurt, but you may not be in the mood very often. You will be tired from taking care of the baby.

Its gonna hurt a little no matter how long you wait... But the reason they tell you wait 8 weeks is so that you could heal all the way and because you are more fertile after giving birth and it is not safe to get pregnant right after you have given birth

Well you should wait, but I didn't*Blushing sheepishly LOL! When we had our three year old we made it three weeks...It didn't hurt, but we took it easy and slow. When I went in for my six weeks checkup the doc asked if we had and I was honest, and she said its fine as long as it didn't hurt. Did you have an episiotomy and stitches? If you did I'd wait til the stitches heal, if not do it when you are comfortable. Don't forget some type of BC!! Breastfeeding doesn't stop pregnancy!
