The slim ps2 has the network adapter built in.
So all you need is a fast internet connection (512 at least) and a memory card. (and an ethernet cable to connect the ps2 to the internet)

PS2 slim (got it)
Fast internet - 512kb (256 is ok, but will lag a lot so I don't recommend it)
Ethernet cable - standard network cable (join this to your broadband modem or via pc depending on how your internet is setup)
Memory card - to save all your network settings
Network compatible game - Hardware online arena is sent to you once you have registered with Sony. They send you a disk with updated network settings and a free game =)
