If they have separate accounts, is it ok for the wife to take money out of her husband's account without asking?

I wanted to have the same account but she insisted on separate accounts.

no, that show lack of trust on her part, plus , technically that is stealing from him and she can go to jail.

its better to ask first.

You called it stealing, so obviously it is not ok with you. Whatever it is called, unless it was an emergency, I think it shows disrespect. I would be more than a little upset if that happened to me. But the bigger question is, why are there separate accounts? Sounds as though this marriage could use some counseling to understand boundaries and build trust. Good Luck.

No, it's not ok to take money out of someone else's account. If she's unhappy with the arrangement, she should bring it up and the couple should work out a new one. If neither one wants to give in, sounds like they have no business being married to begin with. But to take money out behind his back is NOT ok.

It behooves me to ask why you would have separate accounts in the first place, unless you are both trying to hide your finances.

If you are not trying to hide finances, and simply do not wish to relinquish your control and or independence, then that would make sense, only if and when you allow both spouses equal access to the Bank Accounts for situations such as this.

Your Wife needed money and I wonder why she didn't feel she could ask you for it..?? What is she afraid of?

Well, if the husband gave her the pin number in the past, then it is assume that she can take money out of the account. If she knows the pin without the husband's knowledge, then no, it is not ok. Spouses should respect others and not take from others!!!

No. It would be a crime if she withdrew money from someone else's account; if her name's not on the account, she has no right to access it. Change your PIN number and hide your checkbook. Next time, tell her to ask first.

It depends. Lets say you told her your pin number in the past. She'd assume that she'd have permission to use it on important things. Like she takes some money out for paying bills and stuff. It is only wrong if you feel that she shouldn't do that.

No it is not ok. I for one think the money should go into one pot but that is me. You both should have access to the account if you both shared one but since you both decided to have seperate accounts she should respect you and tell you that she needs money.

If she wanted separate accounts then it is wrong for her to take money from your account. I would open a new account so she doesn't have your pin number etc. After all she's the one who wants her own account so let her manage her own money and not yours.

Unless it's for some sort of tax reason, why do they have seperate accounts? But, to answer your question, No it is not O.K. to take from the other person's account.

Not really......The litmus test is "is it okay for her husband to steal money from his wife?" If the answer is not the same, then it's wrong.
