If the child is mature enough to handle it, and to discriminate between what is real, and what is impossible. I'd be less likely to want my kid watching a true life crime story, or movies that are about things that can really happen, but I also wouldnt keep them from watching it, again, depending on maturity. I would want to talk to them about it during and after it, and make sure that he or she is ok, and not frightened past a reasonable point. Face it, kids like to be scared and thrilled and excited, and while it may not be the best thing in the world for them to watch, once in a while, with proper parenting techniques in place isn't going to forever damage their psyche

I think it all depends on what the movie is, and how mature the child is... I would just use my own discretion... but like I said it all depends on exactly WHAT scary movie they are watching. Personally... I think 9-12 is still pretty young. I wouldn't allow my kids to watch a gory/scary movie until they are atleast 13-14

Might be a daft Question, But why do you want to watch kids watch scary movies!!
Are you talking about letting kids watch old stuff like the poltergeist Movies? my 11yr old thinks old stuff like that is funny , Cos there so predictable. wouldn't let them watch the new Hills have eyes or Texas chainsaw massacre.
savvy little youngsters are more scared of TV programes like spooks and CSI cos they know they can really happen & you dont need an old clapboard house with a spooky celler or some place miles from anywere, were they keep the son locked in the attic!

I've never liked scary movies, but I know some little kids who just get numb to them over time. Try showing them something that isn't that scary first, don't start out with the Exsorcist

My son is 8 and loves scary movies, i dont let him watch gorey stuff but he likes things like 8 legged freaks and classic monster movies,my daughter on the other hand cant handle those things just yet, it scares the heck out of her and would give her bad dreams. You just gotta know the child and if they can deal with those types of things.

Look at the rated. If it is rated R, forget it.
Life is scary enough without scary films.

they shouldnt be allowed! if a group of kids are watching it-especially boys-they're gonna act all tough in front of each other but it could seriously affect them and they wont say anything because they want to look cool. there's a lot of gross stuff in these films and a kid shouldnt be exposed to that sort of stuff

it all depends on the child.I have one daughter who is very much like me and can't stand scary movies as they scare the pants of us,but my other daughter loves then, she thinks their funny. When she is watching them all you can hear her saying is Oh that's so fake,AS if that would ever happen,I don't know where she gets the guts from.

It depends if the kid enjoys those movies and what the rating is. If there's a bunch of naked people being eaten by zombies, maybe they shouldn't see it.
