engine type? year? Most newer vw cars recommend 5w40 european blend synthetic. You can also use 5w30 as well.

These cars were designed for travel at high speeds and high revs on German highways without speed limit - and you'll be aware that they do tend to rev high at highway speeds, probably about 3.000 at 65mph, am I right? You'll want a high-grade synthetic oil for that kind of an engine. These cars can run at 5000 rpm until the tank is dry, and then again, a.s.o. But you need to pamper them with the best, synthetic high performance oil you can get, even if it's not a performance model. They can give you a lifespan of about 250.000 miles if you treat them well.

Take it fro a mechanic Pennzoil is good as well as Valvoline
Any name brand is good and as long as you change it often the car will last and last.
