You just asked one of the most profoundly direct and intelligent questions I've ever seen on here. I'm looking forward to seeing if any Jews actually respond.

I am a Jew and I am a liberal. Your question makes a totally false assumption - that it's the Republican Party that does most for our "cause".
First off - the issues surrounding Israel are not the only issues to be concerned with. In general, Jews place a high priority on education, and are open-minded, free-thinking people - and are hypersensitive to misconduct of power.
Secondly - you cite no examples WHATSOEVER - that somehow Democrats AREN'T supportive of Israel. That's an utterly absurd comment and reveals that your true intention is simply to bash liberals & Democrats - even though you back it up with no facts - and you can't, because your question reveals that you aren't interested in reality or remotely understanding liberal philosophy or Democratic principles.
My belief is that everything you think you know about what Democrats think, you obtain from people who aren't actually Democrats. For example, if you listen to Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh all day - they are constantly telling their listeners what liberals think.
Unfortunately - neither Sean nor Rush are doing their audience any favors because they DON'T articulate the liberal position at all - only what they WANT their listeners/fanbase/groupies to think what Democrats think.
Why don't you truly educate yourself, and have a real, in depth conversation with someone on the left........rather than being told what a liberal thinks by someone who isn't liberal - why don't you instead try to understand the liberal positions from someone who actually is.
What are you afraid of? Insight? Enlightenment? A challenge to your own preconceived notions?

I am a Republican and a supporter of Israel, I have always wondered why Jews in America are Democrats, they support the party that goes against its own people.

Great question! The answer does not have anything to do with being Jewish it has to do with being a liberal. To be liberal means to be against anything conservatives are for. Israel is warring with Arabs and now so are we. Bush backs the Jews so naturally the liberals back the throat cutter.

When you say "most" -- what is your source? Before you can ask your question, you need to establish accurate statistics. It may seem to you that most are liberal, but that doesn't make it a fact.

I don't believe you are accurate. My best guess is that the numbers are pretty equal.
