I keep reading answers on here about about "socialists" and "socialist thinking" and "socialist governments". Can we all agree that we live in a country with a mix of capitalism and socialism? If you don't believe me, ask someone who is getting social security or food stamps or federally guaranteed student loans. People keep throwing it around like a curse word. Honestly, we should be glad for socialism because ever since FDR, no more great depressions.
Bonus points for anyone who can accurately identify what fascism is.

thank you to g, good answer, the other two, I'm not sure you know the difference between basic socialist concepts and authoritarian, soviet style communism. There is a big difference, but if you don't understand that, you probably don't understand either very well.

To tinker thinker, better come up with a new name. You don't sound like a thinker. Got news for you, any government program that is underfunded will fail. Imagine that.

It is a mix, but where is the balancing point? I think there are not enough checks on free trade right now, and people are suffering.
A recent definition by former Columbia University Professor Robert O. Paxton:
* "Fascism may be defined as a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victim-hood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion.

You are wrong!
Your premise, that anyone who gets benefits, are socialist is pure BS!
We are far from being Socialist!
How is drawing Social Security, that I paid for 40 years, Socialism? The government has been stealing OUR money! What do you call that?
How many ill in this country are ill or disabled because of business, like those who worked with asbestos, in coal mines, or are disabled because of physical injuries? Where is business??
How many die of smoking that were not told the truth by the tabacco business? Because of pollutants dumped into our water system by business!
If you look at each program, you will find that the winner in all is business! That is why there are student loans. Most kids can't afford close to a $180,000 to go to school! The person most apposed to student loans! Ronald Reagan, thanking the surgeon who saved his life, who was Hispanic and had working class parents, said that he was a perfect example how people can make it in the US if they want to! The Md. responded, that he could not afford to go to school and that he went to school on a Student Loan! Reagan never went after the student loan program after that! Reagan wasn't just injured, he was very lucky to be alive, and all because of an Md that went to school on a student loan!
Student loans are to prepare people for BUSINESS!! Those that get them are not rich and get automatic admissions to Ivy League Schoools, like Bush! They have to earn it, and then many are not accepted!
As far as the rest! People always go after food stamps, and it is ironic as most who qualify work FULLTIME!!! That says more about the employer!
Except for children, this country has to take care of those who aren't working! Most should really be taken care of by business, who shirks their responsibility as they use them as a buffer for Supply and Demand! For business to work the way they do, there will always be unemployment! There HAS TO BE!!
Many of the rich don't do a damn thing, the live off of the poor, getting their stipends for money put into a business that preys on the poor!
If the government did not at least do something to help the fallout of business, there would be anarchy in this country, and politicians and business would be looking at an entirely different government!
Fascism, generally compared to current day Republicans!
Fascism is a radical authoritarian political philosophy that combines elements of corporatism, totalitarianism, extreme nationalism, militarism, anti-communism and anti-liberalism.

We did approximately the bloodless struggle in A-degree historical past and even though our historical past trainer admitted been a supporter of socialism he did early on create a lesson that was once very balanced in its view and that was once very useful on account that he was once an excessively well trainer. But following that lesson I nonetheless got here out considering that capitalism is a higher process than socialism even though each undoubtedly have their deserves. Most American's on YA do appear to take a as an alternative competitive tone in opposition to socialism main me to think schooling at specific instances (as a rule throughout the bloodless struggle for ideological factors) was once somewhat biased. But whilst socialism is regarded to be very reverse of Americans values and so with the ones values based from an early age socialism might swiftly emerge as rejected.

We are becoming socialist, but we are not supposed to be. Government is supposed to be small. Unfortunately, the people who we elect to keep it small sometimes realize that their job security relies on making government grow.
Fascism, in layman terms, is basically a government that wants to control every single aspect of the lives of its citizens.

The art of government is to make two-thirds of a nation pay all it possibly can pay for the benefit of the other third.

Tell someone that needs food, or housing assistance that it's "socialism".
Americans want programs to help others that are down.

Some forms of socialist ideals can be implemented for the good of the nation, but the free market and lifestyles of citizens must remain free and protected.
