It's about power, I think. They have the power to degrade another person, and usually they pick people who won't do anything about it. I think it is disgusting and it infuriates me that a person could treat another human being like that.

Several reasons, depending on your definition of harassment. If you consider dirty jokes harassment, then people who are concerned by restriction of their freedom of speech may do it just to irk someone. On the other hand, those who truly harass may have unresolved sexual issues, overbloated egos, or could just be plain sociopaths who enjoy making others miserable. It's a complicated question.

This was simular to a topic I had in a class.
The harasser is so insecure with theirselfs they will torment others to build up their false egos.The more insecure the more likely to attempt violence.
