I'm not sure... When I think about it, it skews everything. I guess it's a black background... more like null space, really.

For me yes, when fading in and out, the background is black. In the past I have had visual experiences so vivid that you could say it is just like watching a television screen.
If your interested: techno-music will induce these visual experiences. The right music causes your bodies rhythms (respiratory, brain waves, heartbeat, etc...) to synchronize with the beats of the music and this causes hallucination. If you choose to look into your mind like this you will see
strange things!
