See this notice - it is from the front page of Tulane University's webpage. Whenever you go to the webpage of a respectable university they will have a link to some statement similar to this.

"Tulane University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: Telephone 404-679-4501) to award bachelor's and master's degrees. Tulane's Freeman School of Business is accredited by the AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), the premier accrediting body for business schools."

You should go to the website of the online school that you are interested in and they should have a very similar statement. There are lots of bogus organizations that pretend to accredit colleges, so anyone might have some kind of comment that they are accredited. Don't beleive it! The only one that really counts is what is called "Regional Accreditation" - since there are several regional organizations that do the accrediting - like Southern, Western, New England, etc.. what you will need to do is check the website of one of the famous schools that is around the same area as the online school. Then the online school should have a notice exactly the same as the one for the famous school. Otherwise, save your money, they are probably just ripping you off. You will wind up with a phony degree that no one will honor. Be careful!!! And good luck.

I heard State accredited is better. If you call your local community or state college and ask them if you were to go to this online school, would the credits be accepted there. It does depend on the school though. I've heard U of Maryland and U of Phoenix and Kaplan U are three of the better online schools. There is such a thing as accreditation though.

Nothing. No online college has been accredited. To get accredited, the college must be visited by members from other accredited schools and each individual program must be validated against known curricula.
