My current systems are running 512MB. I was thinking of upgrading them to 1GB or 2GB. Would I see any significant difference between 512, 768, 1GB, 1.5 etc.?

Yes, you should notice your system to be a little faster at loading the games and running them. I believe a big difference was noticed among players who played BF2 when upgrading from 1GB to 2GB. Windows takes like 256MB, leaving you with 256MB for applications. If you run a lot of processes, it can make your game choppy. Upgrading memory is one of the better options to take when a new videocard and CPU is out of the question.

Dang skippy you will. I added a 512mb stick to a board and it was like zooooooooom!
Then I added a decent SV card and was in gamer la la land for a long time.
