Eleven House Republicans on Thursday told Democratic leaders they want them to appear before the House Ethics Committee to answer questions about what they may have known -- and failed to disclose -- about former Rep. Mark Foley's communications with congressional pages.

Led by Rep. Jack Kingston (Ga.), vice chairman of the House Republican Conference, the group sent letters to Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.) and Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean. The Republicans say Democrats shouldn't be absolved from answering questions about the scandal, especially in light of suspicions that the crisis was orchestrated as a political move to harm Republicans.

Just as it must be determined whether any Republican Members or political operatives were aware of and attempted to conceal Mr. Foley’s activities, it must also be determined whether any Democrat Members

Of course House Democratic leaders should have to testify. If it is determined they might have had advance knowledge of the event they are guilty of endangering the welfare of a minor by sitting on the information (if that turns out to be the case.)

At this point in the investigation the only ones who should be going in front of any committee investigating this event should be those who the evidence shows may have been involved. If there were Democrats who come up in the Investigation than of course they should be questioned. However, at this point to just randomly question Democrats would only be a way for the Republicans to deflect some of the blame and negative press to the Democrats. I haven't heard anyone saying they went to Nancy Polasi with these accusations and she did nothing. Unlike Dennis Hastart, who has had a number of people from his own party claiming to have come to him and his aids and were told the situation was being taken care of.

So in short, unless a Democrat comes up in the investigation as part of a cover-up, than no I don't believe any Democrats should be brought before an Ethics Committee simply because it would be a distraction and a waste of energy that should be spent investigating the evidence.

Apparently, the Republican leadership in the House learned of Foley’s email exchanges with the former page many months ago and responded in a way that has become pro forma: They covered it up. Foley was not investigated, not censured and not punished. He was not even removed from the Missing and Exploited Children’s caucus. If he weren't guilty he would not have resigned. The crisis was not orchestrated to harm Republicans. I agree with RKO.

Absolutely! This is the perfect opportunity for anyone in public office to demonstrate that they are not above the law, or hide their actions, (or lack of).

They way I see it, since it was a republican, Kirk Fordham, Foley's chief of staff, who provided the information of inappropriate contact with House Pagers who were minors to ABC News, they do have a smidgen of honor to cling to. Americans could find fault with only Speaker Hassert and the political arm of the house, Tom Reynolds, and Rep. John Shimkus, the Illinois Republican who chairs the board overseeing the page program, instead of the whole party.

For crying out loud, why can't they admit their part in concealing predatory abuse of a child. Americans are Fathers and Mothers, and are quite able to see right from wrong. They is no "gray" area here, my friend.

Anyone who knew anything about this scandal - Democrat or Republican - should to before the House Ethics Committee (a ridiculous committee for Congress anyway, since no member of Congress has any ethics to begin with). A thorough check of all 535 members of Congress would certainly reveal almost every single one of them to be a pedophile; wife-beater; psychopath; cross-dresser; philanderer; manic-depressive; rapist; alcoholic; drug abuser; thief; fraud; liar; bad-check writer - perhaps there's even a murdered or two among these cretins.
Sure the Republicans will try to soft-pedal this scandal as much ado about nothing, while neglecting to remember that they spend millions of taxpayers' dollars investigating a President who had a sexual dalliance with a consenting adult!
No one in Congress that knew about this (and I'll be they all did) deserves to get off the hook on this one. It simply demonstrates what kind of slime these sub-humans really are that keep sucking off the taxpayers' teat. -RKO-

No, they shouldn't. It is complete nonsense and a desperate attempt to shift attention away from the issue at hand. With that said, what would be the motive to hide the information? Were they trying to time the release of the information to affect elections? If so, shame on them for revealing that their was a pedophile in congress.

Sure...if they knew something. But I doubt a Dem would have been told...talk about ammo! If a Dem knew that three years ago...wouldn't you think Dem's would have brought it out for the 2004 presidential election....in which Bush campaigned heavily on gay issues , family and religious values.

Yeah, it was all the Dem's fault. I think Clinton told Foley to go after those kids. Hillary helped him. Sheesh, you are pathetic.
