A gyno is not a replacement for a pediatrician. If you are old enough to need to go to the gyno (when you become sexually active) then you should see a general practioner. If you are going to the gyno you also need to see a regular doctor for anything else you might need. Would you go to the gyno if you had a flu...

I had to give up going to my pediatrician when I graduated extreme college at 18 years previous. That replaced into basically some months in the past. It relies upon on your well-being health center and coverage rather some the situations.

Talk to your doctor about what age your child should make the cross over.
I myself still see the same doctor that delivered me, and I am 30. Of course he isn't a pediatrician, but your doctor will be able to best tell you when your child is ready. I would think that finding a G.P or either sex at around 15 is probably safe.

Girls when they hit puberty but still take them to a pediatrician until 18 same with a boy. They know more about how kids grow than others that is why they are pediatricians.

well.. ill be 19 in november. and i still go to the pediatrician.. unless i'm at school in which case i go to whoever is at the health center.
i also have never been to the gyno. my pediatrician gave me birth control..
but i should probably go soon.
anyway, i sort of rambled on, but that's my experience
i think up until 18 is usually okay
edit: haha, good point EVELYN R!

When my sons turned 13 I took them to a regular Dr. However, their PED still wants to see them once a year. I find that so sweet........my sons are 34 and 37. If I had a daughter I would start taking her to a gyno once she started her period. Get her used to the routine of proper care and the gyno. Good Luck !!!

I didn't go to the Gyno at all until I was 28 years old. 3 months before I got married. I was a virgin until my wedding night. So there was no need to go. As far as my boys are concerend we go to a family DR. So they can go there their whole lives if they want to.

I'm 15, I stopped seeing a pediatrition at 12. My parents made a good choice. They spotted a lot more problems then the pediatrition did, and it feels like a better more mature environment. Sorry not sure about a Gynecologist.
