I am 39 weeks and being induced monday due to me having gestaional diabetes. With an ultrasound they said the baby is about 6lbs and 15oz on an estimate. His head is about 9cm. So tell me do I have a lot of pain to look forward to? Does that seem like a big head LOL and is that an average size for baby?

babies can be up to 10 pounds. That is big! Normal is a little about 7 pounds I believe. I think you'll be fine. Just have an epidural. Because being iduced causes stronger, more painful contractions. If you have an epidural, you only know you are having them by the monitor!!! My sister in law gave birth to my 6 lb 7 ounce niece and she didn't feel a thing!!!

That size baby seems pretty normal. My four children were all over 8 lbs. I was induced for 3 of them. The only bad thing I think with being induced is during normal labor you kind of get the break between contractions whereas when I was induced the contractions seemed more constant. Will it hurt? Yes. I will not lie and say you will not feel anything. But...as soon as you see that beautiful face on your newborn all the pain will be forgotten. Good luck! Congrats!

A 6 -7 pounder is usually small to avg size baby. Diabetes can cause for a larger baby. My children were 8.5 and 9.9 at birth and no diabetes... It will depend on your pelvis, on what size baby you can deliver vaginally. The other part if you do not tolerate pain easy get the epi. The pitocin makes the contractions more intense. I compare it to having severe cramping when you get runny bowel movements; but the pain is not constant. I did natural birth with both of mine; but I have a high tolerance for pain. By the end I was begging for them to just pull them out. Pushed 2 hours with first 12hours total labor, second pushed 15 minutes induced 12 hour labor. Good Luck just close your eyes relax as much as possible and just breathe and concentrate on the breathing, a gentle massage on the inside of my arm did wonders for me to help me relax.

well the induced part usually makes it a bit more painful because your body isn't doing the natural thing it is made to do BUT its kinda hard to say because the whole process really isn't fun. All I can say is that I have had two babies pretty quickly and my best advice is to stay up and walking, do the nerdy rockin' around thing while standing and leaning on your bed...all that will make the baby come quicker, give you something to do other than be in pain and make the pushing time much less. Even if you will be getting a ..I can't remember the name all of the sudden- but you know, that thing in the back that numbs you all up...even if you get that you will have hours probably before they are even able to give it to you. The inducing comes in many different forms (chemical they inject, membranes, the bag of waters...all of them not at all painful..at least they werent to me!
Good luck,Im so happy you get to be un-pregnant on Monday!

My second was 9.5 1/2. I did it naturally without an epidural. So don't let the doctors scare you. Its gonna hurt. Childbirth hurts. But I couldn't really tell a difference between pushing out any of my kids. It all hurt. The biggest thing it to try and stay as calm as you can and to focus on something so you don't think about the pain so much. 7 pounds is a nice normal size. Not big, not little. So just think about holding your child, and not how big he is. Your body can stretch further than you realize. And please consider getting your doctor to gently move the skin as the head comes out, instead of rushing things and tearing or cutting you. An episiotomy is NOT automatically necessary. Best of luck!

Congrats on the baby!!! But don't try to be a hero, just ask for the epidural. I have had 3 children one with no epidural and 2 with the epidural. BELIEVE me when I say the epidural way is much more "enjoyable". When they induce you the contractions are harder to begin with, when you go into labor on your own you have time to "get used to the pain" or work yourself up to the harder ones. Don't mean to scare you here, it is all worth it in the end. Good Luck and Congrats again.

I too had gestational diabetes and I had a 10lb 5oz boy....head was 15 inches around and YES it hurt. I stayed at home till 1/2 hour before he was born. I had to walk him down as he was so large and I gave birth to him vaginally and naturally. Your baby sounds like he is the perfect size for you and you must remember that they don't call labor for nothing. You will work and you will hurt but honey remember, once you have your hands on that sweet little baby boy you will forget all the pain and work. Trust me, been there :) Congratulations honey on your new little life !!!! Good Luck !!!!

when the shoulders is coming out will be the most painful. It's best that you count your blessing cause a baby is a gift from God.Trust me the moment the baby born you will forget all about the pain. just ask God for guidance and protection. good luck. the diabetes might be a contribuiting factor to discomfort.

It will hurt a little after wards because you are swollen down there also if you tare. Depends on your body structure and how wide your hips are, But you should be fine during if you get an epy. I had one and gave birth to and almost 8 pounds and I was a small girl then (16) and had no problems until after wards, but they give you pain meds for that.
