They may say it and if they do they have to show the logo saying FDIC insured because if they don't it's false advertisement, but you might want to consider a major branch bank like Chase, Bank of America or others that have branches across the country because independent online banks can charge whatever they want and can throw in fees and you can't do anything about it. I wouldnt deal with independents period I have a credit card through First Premier Bank in North Dakota and they're not that great, but I am using them to rebuild my credit, but I wouldnt recommend them to anyone.
