My 13 year old brother was chosen to say "A toast to the girls" at the 4-H banquet/award's ceremony, and I can't help him, because I've never written a toast before! Something, that tells that the girls are an important part of our 4-H...and blah blah blah....help!

Tread carefully...

This seems kind of strange...I know their intentions are probably good but it smells sexist to me - if you have to pander to and mollify the girls, make them feel important, remind them that they are part of the club, I don't know...something's not right there.

But since it probably wasn't his doing, but rather an assignment given to him, I guess there's not much he can do about it.

I think maybe a way around it would be to call attention to the fact that in 4-H there is no difference between a girl and a boy, because all the projects are open to everyone...4-H was a little ahead of its time, never restricting a project based on gender. There were girls raising steer in 4-H before there was ever a female governor in America. Stress the equality, the strength of both genders.

Or, if you want to take the easy road and not be cheesy and politically correct, you could make it funny, saying something quasi-insulting like if it weren't for the girls in 4-H, no boy would have ever finished his braiding project, and the only pies at State Fair would be Cow.

I've got one, I've always had a silver tongue "here's to you girls, whose beauty is surpassed only by your genuineness" I think that's a good one, it rolls off the tongue well too, sounds very good. have a good day. :)
