A mute should be packin' heat. A 9mm to the head of their attacker would stop the attack and draw plenty of attention from the bang. Problem solved.

A mute worried about that should carry an emergency whistling device.
Like a grenade, when you pull the pin it makes a loud noise, it's like mace but with sound instead of spray

hmm...good question, a mute usually is someone that can talk but chooses not to, so they're stupid if they don't scream in that situation. Maybe if you're around a car or have a backpack, try to throw it at them, or kick the car a buncha times or something like that....or if you have keys, those always work as a good weapon!

Kick 'em square in the nuts! Gouge eyes or kick their knee in backwards or sideways. If they are holding you from behind, lean forward and then throw your head back to try and break their nose. Or bring your heel up to hit em in the nuts if they are behind you behind you.

Blow a whistle , honk a horn .
Kick the attacker in his crotch and make him scream .
Anything else I could come up with . { if I were mute } .

I think they could carry a whistle, it's small enough so it's easy to carry around.

You would have to knock something over or grab something and start banging away. Hope it don't happen.
