I cant completely agree with you on that. I am faaaar from being wealthy, and the few times I have needed the police they have arrived in a timely fashion and were very good during the situation. I am sorry that you feel the way that you do about the law enforcement in your area. Perhaps you could write a letter to your city official expressing your concerns. This may or may not do any good, but I bet it will make you feel a lot better.

I agree- the same police department that arrested me for a joint (booked, printed cuffed- the whole nine... for a joint), laughed in my face and said "what do you expect us to do about it?", literally, those words, when I was mugged and punched in the face. I hate police. Remind me of that Pantera song
"You seem to miss the point
Arresting for a joint...
You're writing tickets man
My mom got jumped...they ran"
Dear HQ3- lol, but the sad fact is that when my house was robbed it took the police 11/2 hours to respond. They took a quick report and told us to call them if we thought of anything. They did not even check for prints even though we requested they do so. We had a probable suspect in mind (our landlord) and they just said we had no proof- they did not even look into it. Ghostbusters might have been a better idea. At least as useful.

Cops sometimes....help the underprivileged, sometimes, But the police are required to protect the most privileged citizens no matter how they earned.

Being a former cop, let me shed some light on your limited view of what we do.
Police do not just stop the "poor criminals" from taking what they have not earned from the over privileged "rich" (that is something they usually get paid to do after work, a form of second job since being a police officer does not pay much.) Police risk their lives to save people every day.
Yes, they hand out tickets to people who cannot seem to obey the law - and not just to under privileged "poor criminals." Police ticket people for driving when they should not be (while under the influence of various drugs, while not having insurance, or even when disregarding safety due to speeding.) Believe it or not, those tickets save lives.
Police respond to domestic violence calls - hopefully in time to arrest the person doing the abusing. They risk their lives by chasing down dangerous felons (murderers, rapists, armed robbers) in the hope of getting them off the street and into a jail so that they cannot hurt anyone else. Before you say that they just go after the poor, take a look at the examples I listed. Poor people do not have to murder or rape to get by. While some do resort to stealing from others, it would take only a little effort to clean up and work for a living instead of preying on others.
Did I mention police actually help people who need it? On my average shift, I used to have at least one call where someone needed non-emergency assistance. "My cat stuck her head between the rails and can't get out!" - being dispatched to help an elderly person change a tire - helping settle a noise complaint between two neighbors without the need for dragging each other into a courtroom. What you see on shows like "Cops" represents some of the worst situations police get into.
The next time you hear about someone complaining about how some "pig" gave them a ticket for no reason and now they have to pay it or go to jail - remember that the citation has to be valid in order for it to stand up in court. That person is a criminal who broke a law. If they had done nothing wrong, they there would be no ticket.
I really do hope you never need a police officer's help, but if you do maybe you will understand and actually remember to say "thank you."

I am sorry, but I must wholly disagree with what I construe as a very prejudiced and unfair statement.
Not all blacks each chicken.
Not all white people live in trailer parks.
Not all hispanics eat rice and beans.
Not all asians are thin.
Not all laws seem fair but let me tell you something. I am not a rich person but when the cop that helped to save my life from a vicious attack, and asked nothing back, though he RISKED his life for a perfect stranger, I daresay that your view is one-dimensional and narrow-minded. Cops do a whole lot of good for people but do not get the much needed appreciative remarks and honor they deserve. Comments and opinions such as your may make a cop ask him or herself, "What is it all for?"
There is good and bad in everyone, in every aspect of our lives but not all men are created equally evil.

Your question is such an inane generaliztion that it doesn't really deserve an answer.
The police do PLENTY of good things for citizens, and some of them die protecting us.

I think your anger should be redirected to the courts and government that are not protecting us. The police have a thankless job and do the best they can.
