I have a "Very Best of Jake Thackray" CD, but the sleevenotes only say that he died on Christmas Eve 2002. Exactly the same narrative is available on his tribute website, so I'm none the wiser. However the site does accept and respond to questions (FAQ), if you're interested. Thus someone has asked when he died.

The BBC's online report, on 03/01/03, said that he'd been ill for some time, but that the cause of death had not been announced. Similarly the Guardian's obituary has no cause of death. It has obviously been kept secret. Which means you'll have to go to the Family Records Centre in Clerkenwell to get a copy of his death certificate, if you are really keen to know.
