GLBT rights are not special rights. PFLAG works to achieve equal civil rights for all people, including our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) loved ones. Because our GLBT children, friends and family members deserve the same rights as our straight ones; because discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is still legal in many states; because a GLBT person can be fired from their job simply because of who they love or how they express their gender; because same sex couples cannot legally be married in the majority of states in the United States; because GLBT youth face constant harassment and abuse in schools across the country; because the road to full equality and acceptance is a long one - PFLAG needs you to stand up and join us in our work. Your loved one needs you to take a stand for fairness. By being open about yourself and your family you are already helping to dispel misinformation and fear. You can take the next step by joining PFLAG as we support, educate and advocate for a better world.

The same reason you should support anyone's rights- gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transsexual people have as much right as you do to live their lives as they see fit as you do. To single out a particular group for a shared characteristic is a slippery slope to singling out other people for being jewish, left handed, green eyed, and what have you.

The Nazis started out just singling out Jews and then their criteria for being singled out grew to a much wider circle. In Nazi germany, towards the end of the war, you could be thrown in the concentration camps just for being crippled or retarded.

Not all blue eyed people are devils, like the Muslims would have you to believe. One specific characteristic does not dictate the rest of the psyche- it was just pure chance that a person would have that specific characteristic such as being gay or bi that was being singled out.

There are far more straight pedophiles than gay ones- it's just the gay pedophiles that get most of the attention.

What if gays wanted to restrict straight rights? What if it actually happened? Very unlikely, but it should make you consider the ramifications of this.

GLBT people don't want special rights- we want EQUAL rights. The right to get married to the person we love, the right to see the person in the hospital when they get sick, and not be denied because we are not immediate family. Never mind that a couple has been together for 10, 20, or 40 years, they are not considered family because they are not a brother, uncle, or husband. If gay people could get married, we could legally take care of our partners' estate in the event of sickness or death.

the reason to support the rights is that they are just being who they are. with the fact that most everyone is america is all confused about who they are at least they know for sure that they are something in this world. as well as they are having to live in a society that lets them do everything else but if they want to be married then that is just a sin. but since it seems that all marriages are ending in divorce i see no reason why they should not be married i know more people that have had comminent ceremonies that have been together longer than marriages

Because they're human beings. And in the words of our declaration of independence..."that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Doesn't say "except gays" in there, does it? Nope.

And why should you *not*? Just because you don't like their lifestyle? Hey, I'm straight, but I'm not christian, I'm liberal, and I don't like Bush. So I'm sure you don't like my lifestyle either, does that mean you think I don't have any rights either? Where does it stop?

This country was founded on the principle of equal rights for ALL. Not just the ones you like, ALL.

Because everyone should be treated equally, no matter of race, gender, religious belief, or sexual orientation. They are people and cannot change who they are. We live in a so called "free country" but that's bull if we don't allow GLBT to have rights. Who are you to judge others?

First of all only support anything that you fully understand and believe and also issues unresolved that you believe need to be challenged and supported. If yourself fit one of these categories and need to voice some action then go for it.

Because any law that openly discriminates against any part of its community is inherently flawed. God says, as such it us up to you, the people, to ensure that ALL laws are just.
