When was the last time you checked google.com and yahoo.com search engines?

to see how many times you are listed (under your name, any nics that you've used, your family name, under your phone number, under any forums you've been in and responded to, under any surveys you've taken, under any blogs or message boards you've been? How many times are you listed? Were you shocked? And does any of that info or will any of that information you wrote affect your career or future.

I learned way back (1995 or so) not to use my given name on forums, bbs's, etc. because you never know when something will come back to haunt you.

While most things can eventually be traced by someone with the skills, time and desire to do so, most of the time, using screen names, etc are helpful for this.

And yes, I have done this ... and I do it every once in awhile, for myself, my husband, and other family members, and give advice regarding internet security and safety.

Even the name I use here is not the name i use for email or for other websites. Not because I don't want people to know who I am, but in this day and age ... there really is very little privacy left, and I have been stalked before, thus I believe in doing even little things for a bit of anonymity ... fleeting as it might be.

Good question, actually. I wonder why no one else answered?
