A wireless router/modem is good I have a safecom one and last Christmas we had 3 table tops and 5 laptops on all at the same time

Unless you have a wireless modem, you will need an adapter to allow you to plug 2 computers into your existing modem. If you get a wireless router, you can hook up your laptop by following the instructions for pairing. You will need either a wireless card fitted inside your pc or a usb plug in adapter which you just plug in and pair with the wireless modem.
It's really easy. The amount of computers you can hook up to your wireless modem will vary between brands, mine will take 8.

buy a wifi router & connect your pc to it with a lan cable first then connect your laptop wirelessly.
