For employment application purposes, when a background check will be conducted, should I check yes for conviction? I was told that it wasn't a conviction. It was a misdemeanor p.t. charge. I paid a court fee and that was it and it was 7 years ago. Really confused. Please help

For your (employment) purposes, the record of your case will not show up. Therefore, do not tell anyone about it.

That case will ONLY be available to Judges, States' Attorneys, and maybe law--enforcement officers. Your potential employer cannot have access to it.

In Illinois, where I practiced law, it's done a little differently. People get something called "Court Supervision", which can later ( 2 years on clean behavior ) be expunged.

As far as the company you are applying to is concerned, you have NO criminal record. It's done this way so that only the legal system can know, not just anyone out there. This is for your privacy, confidentiality, and so you can go on with your life.
