Your question should actually be "Why has A page in the Foley scandal lawyered up? A being singular, there are many involved, don't be surprised if a few more don't lawyer up. Anybody involved in a criminal investigation should "lawyer up" as soon as they know they are involved. Not only the accused have the right of legal representation. There are a few shady lawyers out there who would try to intimidate witnesses, if they know they have to go through another lawyer, instead of a lay person who doesn't really know what their rights are, they would probably not try to intimidate some witnesses.

One reason may be they found out the "kid" was actually 18. What he did was terrible, but.... technically... And also, how does it make the libs look? Attacking a gay guy. On one hand they say republicans aren't looking after the gays, on the other they are trying to persecute one.
Isn't this the second republican to be involved in a gay scandal? I can't remember who the other was.

Sorry to say, but in America 2006, lawyering up is as American as baseball and apple pie. Surely being on either, ahem, end of gay sex with a Congressman merits "getting you lawyer on"...
