I know you'll say "it depends on the type of windows we choose" and you'll say "it depends on how many windows", and a million other factors, but if someone could give a ballpark guess (I know, it's a big pallpark) on how much it will cost before I even mention it to my wife, that would REALLY HELP!!!

I spent $13,000 to replace 6 windows, one 12 foot and one 6 foot glass sliding door. They were upgraded to double pain glass. Viplex from home depot did the work and they have a free life time guarantee replacement for any kind of breakage.

If you are installing them yourself, plan on about $200/window. If you are going to have someone install them for you (remove old window, prep window frame, remove inside moulding and reinstall) count on about $300-$400/window.

That's about all I can offer to help right now as the numbers all do depend on the number of windows in the house.

20 Windows x $200 = $4000.00 (do it yourself)
20 Windows x $400 = $8000.00 (Window + Labor)

Good Luck... hope this helps.

P.S. I installed my own windows in my home a few years ago. I went to a place called the Window Factory (local manufacturer of replacement windows) and was able to get contractor rate for the windows (all I did was ask to pay the contractor rate and they gave it to me with no questions (and I'm not a contractor)) for $146 per window. I had 24 windows to do. I saved a bunch of money.

+/- $ 150.00 - 200.00 PER WINDOW. I WOULDN'T DO IT UNLESS YOUR OLD ONES ARE REALLY REALLY BAD. IF YOU HAVE, WOOD FRAME HOUSE ( NO BRICK ), GO GET A CARPENTER TO REPLACE THEM ALONG WITH NEW TRIM BOARDS. ( BUY THE WINDOWS FIRST FROM A GOOD SUPPLIER - THEY ( THE SUPPLIER ) SHOULD BE ABLE TO MATCH THE EXISTING HOLES IN YOUR HOUSE ( STANDARD SIZES).
